Who the F*ck is Skrilliam?!

Hi. I'm Will, AKA Skrilliam, the dude behind the skribblez. I draw character mashups, nostalgic pop culture parodies, Baltimore-inspired art, and whatever other randomness pops into my head.

As for the name? "Skrilliam" was the affectionate nickname my younger brother came up with by combining scrotum + William, for reasons that probably made perfect sense to him at the time. Years later, when I needed a name for this illustration operation, Skrilliam just felt right. Somehow, a stupid nickname from my childhood became the perfect name for a business built around nostalgia, weird humor, and making things that amuse me.

A unique, memorable name that no one knows how to spell. A real win for searchability.

Just a dude who likes to draw.

I grew up in Frederick, Maryland in the '90s, when most of my free time revolved around drawing, baseball, cartoons, and Nintendo. As I got older, skateboarding and heavy metal entered the mix. I started playing guitar, joined bands, and spent a lot of time hanging out at local shows. Through it all, drawing was always a constant.

Looking back, the Skrilliam sensibility started showing up a lot earlier than I realized.

So I went to school for art.

I went to York College of Pennsylvania to study graphic design, imagining I'd graduate and spend my days designing T-shirts, skateboard graphics, album covers, and band merch. I graduated in 2011, which should give you a pretty good idea of exactly when I grew up and which era of cartoons permanently altered my brain.

My first job out of college was illustrating children's books, but my career eventually took a much more technical turn. I became a patent illustrator and later a technical illustrator and writer in the aerospace and defense industry, where I still work today. I never stopped drawing for a living. It just came with a lot more rules and a lot less color.

And thus, a sticker empire was born.

By day, I make technical illustrations. By night, I make significantly less useful ones, occasionally sell one for $4, and hope someone slaps it on their water bottle. Skrilliam is my excuse to make whatever the hell I want, follow weird ideas wherever they go, and just have fun drawing. It keeps me sane.

One weird idea led to another, then stickers, shirts, prints, markets, and eventually this little corner of the internet. I'm still mostly just making things that amuse me. The fact that they seem to amuse other people too is a pretty cool bonus.

Made in Maryland. Mostly after bedtime.

Today, I live in Parkville, Maryland with my wife, our daughter, and our beagle, Brady. Skrilliam is still a one-man operation, squeezed in around a full-time job and family life. I draw the art, take the photos, run the website, pack the orders, and occasionally drag it all to local markets.

Somehow, this weird side project has grown into something I never really planned on. Every sticker ordered, shirt worn, and random encounter with one of my designs out in the wild still blows my mind.

Thanks for supporting my illustration operation and giving me an excuse to keep making stuff.
